Ingredients

– 1 cup milk
– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
– 4 tablespoons water
– 1 egg, beaten
– 4 cups bread flour
– ½ (3.5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
– 1 tablespoon white sugar
– ½ teaspoon salt
– 2 ¼ teaspoons bread machine yeast
– 1 cup packed brown sugar
– ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
– 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
– ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
– ¼ cup raisins (optional)
– 1 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar
– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
– 1 teaspoon milk
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Place milk, 4 tablespoons melted butter, water, beaten egg, bread flour, pudding mix, sugar, salt, and yeast in the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select the Dough cycle.

2. When the cycle is finished, remove the dough from the machine and knead for 3 to 5 minutes. Roll the dough into a large rectangle. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.

3. Combine brown sugar, ½ cup softened butter, and cinnamon in a bowl. Spread the mixture over the dough, then sprinkle the walnuts and raisins over the top.

4. Starting with the widest end, roll the dough into a log and pinch the seams to seal. Cut into ½- to 1-inch slices and place them in the prepared baking pan. Set the pan in a draft-free space and let the rolls rise until doubled in volume.

5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

6. Bake the cinnamon buns in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes.

7. Meanwhile, combine the confectioners’ sugar, 4 tablespoons softened butter, milk, and vanilla in a small bowl. Spread the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls.
